The British National Road Championships head to North Yorkshire and Tees Valley this week, with the time-trial, circuit, and road race championships all set to be contested by the best riders in the country. Here we’ve pulled together all the key spectator and broadcast information you need, and a few of our ones to watch.

Watching from the roadside

The time-trials will take place in Catterick, North Yorkshire, on Wednesday 19 June. While only accredited personnel, including rider support personnel, are able to park and watch on the barracks, spectators are welcome at Catterick Golf Club. The address for the golf club is Leyburn Road, Catterick Garrison, DL9 3QE, where refreshments will be available to purchase. If you’d like to watch the race elsewhere on the circuit, please be mindful of the road closures and parking suspensions in place. 

For Friday’s fast and furious circuit race in Darlington, spectator parking is available at Feetham’s multi-storey car park (DL1 5SZ), with good public transport links also available. You can find more information on the Tees Valley Combined Authority website here.

The road races will conclude this year’s championships on Sunday 23 June, starting and finishing just after Saltburn Bank, which has a maximum gradient of more than 22%. The climb will separate the best from the rest with its tight hairpin bends, following soon after a fast descent. 

We highly recommend arriving early, taking public transport or utilising the park and ride facility due to the road closures in place. Ones to watch

Last year’s time-trial winners Josh Tarling and Lizzie Holden spearhead two stacked fields on Wednesday, with the likes of Ethan Hayter, Connor Swift, Elinor Barker, Anna Henderson and Zoe Backstedt competing for the elite titles. In the under-23’s, Josh Charlton and Maddie Leech will also be gunning to retain their titles.

Ollie Wood and Meg Barker will also look to make it back-to-back titles at this year’s circuit race in Darlington. Wood will be joined by Saint Piram teammates Will Tidball, Will Roberts and Rhys Britton, with crit specialists Matt Bostock and Alec Briggs also looking for podium spots in the open race. 2023 bronze medallist Leech, Jenny Holl, Emma Jeffers, and Anna Kay will also provide fierce competition.

Lizzie Deignan leads the favourites for this year’s women’s road race in Saltburn, fresh off a strong performance at the Tour of Britain Women, but will be challenged by the likes of defending champion Pfeiffer Georgi, Henderson, Barker, Alice Wood and Claire Steels.

The 2023 podium winners James Knox and Stephen Williams will be looking to go better in Saltburn this year, while previous national winners Ben and Connor Swift will also be gunning for it. Back-to-back winner of the under-23 race, Sam Watson, will also be looking to make another podium this year, with stiff competition from Owain Doull, James Shaw, Ben Tullett and Alex Richardson.
