After a long winter, the Schwalbe British 4X Series is back! We head to Chicksands Bike Park in Bedfordshire this weekend, as the iconic venue hosts rounds one and two of the 2024 series.
The track at Chicksands is looking to be in prime condition thanks to some fantastic preparation from the 4X series crew. The layout remains largely unchanged from previous years, with the ‘S’ bend corners midway down the course always providing drama and close racing action guaranteed. The course crew have plans to switch things up for Sunday’s round two – you can find out more and watch a full course preview here.
Riders can save money by pre-entering for round one and round two today. Spectating is free and there will be several trade stands with the latest mountain bike products for sale.
British 4X legend Scott Beaumont is the new organiser of the Schwalbe British 4X Series and has introduced a number of exciting changes to the National Series. If the build-up is anything to go by, we’re in for a thrilling two days of racing this weekend!
The first change to the series for 2024 see’s the introduction of a new two rounds per weekend format – in line with the National BMX Series. There will be five weekends of racing, hopefully giving riders more time on the bike each week.
Excitingly, the series will now operate using Sqorz – bringing the system used by BMX events worldwide to the world of mountain biking. In 2024 riders will not require transponders, instead benefitting from the features of Sqorz on their mobile phones – with details of motos, knockout rounds and series points instantly accessible through this link.
Finally, new categories have been introduced, with female age groups for 7-9, 10-12, 13-16, 17-29 and 30+ available, and anyone without a British Cycling licence able to race in the 7-9, 10-12, 13-16 or 17+ classes.
