With two and a half weeks to go before the MAXgear International Youth Tour, preparations are going well. The entry list has now closed at a record breaking 261 riders. The age range of the riders is from the Under 8 category to the Under 16’s with the Youth A category having an international feel with a national team from Belgium as well as a national team from the Czech Republic.

The race will start on Saturday 29th May with racing on the Sunday and Monday with five stages in all. The first day starts in Blackpool on the sea front, the second day is to be run at the Salt Ayre Cycle Circuit in Lancaster with the final day being run at the UCLan Sports Arena at Preston.

The Blackpool stage has a new feel for this year with the course being moved from its normal location due to work taking place on the Middle Walk. Blackpool Council had to take the difficult decision to move the race but have pulled out all the stops to find a brand new fantastic 1.25 mile course for this International race.

The course boasts a short hard climb and takes in some of Blackpool coasts breathtaking scenery looking out towards the lower lakes. All the riders will complete the 1.25 mile course for their prologue time trial (no TT equipment will be permitted) before taking to their road bikes again to race as a group around the course. This will be an exciting day for the riders with the local NEG group providing lead motorbikes as well as neutral service bikes, giving our champions of tomorrow a chance to experience a major race.

The Lancaster stages on the Saturday will be two circuit races and will be decided over the 1km cycle circuit which will make for some close exciting racing.  The final day will be run at the Preston Sports Arena. CDNW have to say a massive thanks to the staff at UCLan who have supported the event over the past couple of years and have once again agreed to open up the centre on a bank holiday Monday to enable to the race to take place at the flagship cycle circuit in the North West. UCLan are also providing giveaways so all of the riders can take something away from this growing International event.
