After nine rounds, the 2014 British BMX Series goes full circle and returns to the National Cycling Centre in Manchester for the final meeting of the competition.

The series has visited Kent, Preston, Derby and Birmingham in addition to the home of the Great Britain Cycling Team as riders have battled on a sequence of challenging courses in pursuit of overall honours.

A rider’s best eight results from the 10 rounds count towards their final total in the series.

In the elite men’s competition, Dan McBride knows that, regardless of events in the North West, the title is his.

The 21-year-old earned his two victories of the campaign at Kent’s Cyclopark in April and at Derby in July. McBride missed the season opener in Manchester but his wins, combined with consistently high finishes at the remaining races, give the Decoy BMX Club rider an unassailable current total of 359.5 points.

Second-placed Kelvin Batey sits on 285.5 points but the Balby Academy of Sport rider has Manchester BMX Club duo Calum Strickland and Jacob Roberts in close pursuit.

Third-place Strickland is just 10 points back with Roberts a further seven points behind in fourth.

Great Britain’s Liam Phillips, Tre Whyte and Kyle Evans are all in South America, having competed at last weekend’s UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Santiago del Estero. The trio will remain overseas to prepare for the final round in Chula Vista at the end of September.

The race for the championship women’s title has come down to a duel between Abbie Taylor and Norwich Flyers BMX Racing Club’s Joey Gough.

Four wins for Taylor – at Manchester, Preston and a double in Derby – place her in the ascendancy on 361.5 points.

When the 21-year-old hasn’t been on the top of the podium, she has taken three runner-up finishes, helping her to a 14-point lead over Gough.

Gough has no victories to her name from nine rounds but the 33-year-old’s regular top-five placings have seen her pick up points.

Great Britain’s Charlotte Green is absent as she continues her recovery from an injury sustained at the British Cycling National BMX Championships.

The indoor BMX track at Manchester’s National Cycling Centre was opened in 2011. The world-class venue has hosted two rounds of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup with a third due in 2015.

The facility is also home to the Great Britain Cycling Team’s BMX athletes.
