Over 140 competitors from across the East Region and beyond descended on the Peterborough BMX Club for the second round of the East Anglia Winter Series last Sunday with the Royston BMX Club having 25 members taking part in the event.
For this series the riders compete in classes based on their age on April 1st 2013 as well as different classes to the recent summer series so competitors have to compete against riders they have not raced against before.
Before the racing started the BMX East Region presented a cheque for £361 to Annette Beeton of Cancer Research UK which was the proceeds of a charity “Regional Chairman’s” race held at the Regional Championship event at Royston on October 14th.
The Rockets got off to a solid start with two riders in the 7 and Under category where Oliver Dwyer took 3rd in the B final ahead of Riley Nicholls in 5th and in the Girls 8 & Under class Harriet Alexander took 4th with Chloe Lake in 8th. The Rockets had 7 riders In the 8-9 year boys class where, in the A final, Elliott Bowyer took a fine win with Joshua Abbott in 3rd and Josh Izzard in 7th with Harry Evans taking 1st in the class B final ahead of Louie Silvain in 3rd, Harvey Turner in 7th and in the class C final Christopher Davies finished in 1st.
The Rockets had five in the boys 10-11 year class where in the A final Bradley Marvel took 3rd and in the B final Louis Foreman finished in 5th wit team mate Kele Newall in 8th and in the class C final the win went to Kane Davis with Joshua Richardson Game finishing in 6th.
The 12-13 year class saw James King moving up a class and taking 4th in the A final just ahead of Brandon Fermor in 5th with Charlee Davies taking 7th in the class B final whilst in the male 17+ class Jordan Fermor finished in 6th and in the Masters (30+) class Lee Alexander took 2nd and Darren Foreman finished in 4th. The 17+ Cruiser class saw Sam King take 5th in the A final and in the B final Jason Abbott finished in 2nd chased home by Helen Biggs who took 4th.
The next round of the East Anglia Regional Winter Series is being hosted by the Braintree BMX Club on December 16th with rider registration closing at 11.30am with racing due to start about 12.15pm.
