The British BMX Series resumes with Kent’s Cyclopark hosting rounds two and three on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 May.
It will be the first time the national series has visited the facility in South East England and its 330 metre track which was opened in 2012, and with the event reverting to the standard two rounds over a weekend there are valuable point scoring opportunities.
Great Britain’s Liam Phillips and Shanaze Reade won the elite men’s and championship women categories respectively in March’s first round at the National BMX Centre. But both are issing rounds two and three after the UCI BMX Supercross last week in Manchester, during which the British Cycling Olympic Podium Programme riders were commanding on their way to whitewashing the event.
Remaining British BMX Series rounds
Rounds 4 & 5: Perry Park, Birmingham
Rounds 6 & 7: Manchester Outdoor
Rounds 8 & 9: Gosport
With neither present there is likely to be vociferous competition to take the top spot on the podium. Dan McBride and Tre Whyte, part of British Cycling’s Olympic BMX Academy, both made the quarter finals at last week’s Supercross and will be key contenders in the men’s field.
Quillan Isidore, who was handed his UCI BMX Supercross debut in Manchester at the age of 16, performed commendably in qualifying for the motos and is more than capable of delivering another progressive result on the back of finishing 11th in round one.
Manchester BMX Club rider Calum Strickland was also present at the Supercross round and can use the experience to develop his 29th place finish from round one.
In the Championship women’s class, Great Britain Olympic Development Programme rider Charlotte Green enhanced her burgeoning reputation by reaching the semi-finals at the Manchester UCI Supercross and should be in the higher echelons in Kent.
Talent Team athlete Valerie Zebrokova joins Reade in missing out, leaving the likes of Ayesha McLelland (Gosport BMX Club) and Joey Gough (Norwich Flyers BMX Racing Club) who could capitalise.
Milton Keynes BMX Club’s Isabelle Ferrada, Barking & Dagenham BMX Club’s Bethany Shriever and Peterborough Phantoms rider Bethany Campbell will all eye the podium after top ten finishes in March provided a solid start to the series and could occupy the higher places in the overall standings come Sunday evening.
