The British BMX Series moves on to Kent’s Cyclopark track for rounds two and three on 12-13 April.
Reigning world champion Liam Phillips currently leads the elite men’s standings after a commanding performance at round one in Manchester, where he comfortably won both the British BMX Series and UCI open supercross events.
Phillips, riding for Burnham BMX Club, leads fellow Great Britain Cycling Team member Kyle Evans of Preston Pirates BMX Club by five points, with Canadian visitor Tory Nyhaug third and Dutchman Dave Van De Burg fourth.
The complexion of the top four is likely to change dramatically however with round two as action moves from the indoor track of Manchester to the open track at Gravesend. The international riders, attracted by the UCI ranked supercross event, will be absent, as will Phillips, Evans and Tre Whyte, all preparing for the opening round of the UCI BMX Supercross in Manchester the following weekend.
This leaves the door open for Mid Lancs BMX’s Paddy Sharrock, Burnham BMX Club’s Ryan Stack and Peckham Challengers’ Quillan Isidore to take control of the elite men’s rankings. Sharrock was best of the rest in Manchester, finishing tenth overall behind Phillips, Evans and gaggle of international competitors.
Great Britain Cycling Team’s Abbie Taylor, riding for Sheffield Dirt Society, currently heads up the championship women’s category after a strong ride in Manchester, holding off France’s Manon Valentino, Simone Tetsche Christensen of Denmark and Great Britain teammate Charlotte Green for the win.
Taylor and Green will be absent at Kent, giving Peckham’s Blaine Ridge-Davis and Katurah Davidson, Gosport’s Ayesha McClelland and Great Britain Cycling Team’s promising youngster Valerie Zebrokova the chance to steal some points.
Racing begins at the Cyclopark in Gravesend at 12 noon with categories from six and under to 40+ veteran.
