Location: Oakbank School, Keighley, West Yorkshire
Event: 4 September 2011
Report: Snowdon Sports
Reigning National Champion and former National Trophy Series winner Paul Oldham (Hope Factory Racing) won the opening round of the Yorkshire Points Series in Keighley on Sunday.
The 33-year-old from Colne in Lancashire showed his class by winning the tough hour-long race by more than half a lap from top junior Joe Moses, the 17-year-old Bronte Wheelers rider from nearby Oakworth.
The course at Oakbank School featured a mix of terrain, with some of the course running alongside the edges of football pitches, while other areas head off into the woods for technical and steep areas.
The undulating nature of the course means that, on each two kilometre lap, the riders climb around 60 metres.
Oldham crossed the line around two minutes ahead of Moses, while third spot in the senior race went to Halifax-based Jack Clarkson (Pedalsport), who was about another ten seconds off the pace.
In the supporting race for veterans and women, former National Champion Chris Young (Wheelbase) took victory from Matt Denby of Zepnat RT, while fastest of the women was Nicola Butler of Pedalsport).
The second round of the series is next Sunday, September 11, at the John Stevenson Memorial cross at Hambleton Leisure Centre in Northallerton.
