Talented young senior rider Luke Gray secured victory in the second round of the South West League, staged at South Dartmoor College in Ashburton, Devon, on Sunday.
Gray, the 19-year-old Hargroves Cycles rider from Poole in Dorset, took victory from Motorpoint Pro Cycling ace Will Bjergfelt in a two-up finish, while the rest of the field were a country mile behind.
Gray won both the two South West League events he entered last season, and if he continues to ride the league events will be hard to beat in the overall, with last season's overall victor, Mark Davies (Southfork Racing) well behind the leading two.
Gray and Bjergfelt attacked from the start and were soon out of sight, and went on to lap the majority of riders - some being caught twice.
Heavy rain the previous day and overnight had stopped for the event, and although the course was slippery it held together reasonably well and made for fast racing on the small circuit with most riders covering around 16 laps.
First and second in the opening round last week, Pete Dawe (Southfork Racing) and Tim Carpenter (Empella Cyclo-Cross.com) were again first and second in the veterans 40-49 category, while Steve Davies (Team Jewson) pushed round one winner Robin Delve (Mid-Devon CC) into second.
Mid-Devon CC's Adam Fursdon won the junior race from Daniel Wellings of Somerset Road Club, while his team-mate at Mid-Devon, Will Kelly, was fastest of the youth riders.
