Location: Gloucester Park, Basildon
Event: 8 October 2011
Report: Snowdon Sports

Andrew Nichols (PCA Ciclos Uno) continued his march towards the Eastern League title with a fifth maximum points haul at Gloucester Park in Basildon on Saturday.

Nichols, 21 and from Chelmsford in Essex, has been top senior in every round so far, and with eight results counting towards the total points he is looking good for overall victory at this early stage.

He crossed the line alone, 1-28 ahead of his nearest rival and team-mate at PCA Ciclos Uno James Whatling who was finishing second to Nichols for the third time this season in the Eastern League.

And almost another minute off the pace was junior Cameron Toms (Iceni Velo) who took third spot overall and was top junior, crossing the line just seven seconds ahead of team-mate Matt Thurston, who in turn was just one second ahead of Hayden Wood.

Mike Bowen (West Suffolk Wheelers) moved up to second in the league with victory in the supporting race. The 44-year-old from Bury St Edmunds was 49 seconds ahead of 63-year-old Enfield rider Philip Cooper (unattached), while series leader Geoff Bores (Ford CC) was just three second further back.

CC Ashwell’s Theo Doncaster won the youth race, securing his first win this season by almost a minute from Tom Stead (Nice Tri St Neots). But Sean Dunlea – who has won every round so far but was absent from the fifth round at Basildon – is still the runaway leader in the overall rankings.
