London Phoenix rider Matt Webber won the fifth round of the Mosquito Bikes London Cyclo-Cross League, staged over a challenging course at Reed Court Farm in Chainhurst, Kent on Sunday.

The 37-year-old Londoner won by 22 seconds from Sigma Sport’s Wouter Sybrandy, adding to his victory in round two of the series.

The early pace had been set by Gary Record (Bike Tart.com) who attacked on the first lap, but he was eventually tracked down by a chasing group and eventually caught by Webber.

After sticking together for a couple of laps, Webber decided to go it alone, and attacked his rival, who was unable to respond after his earlier efforts.

Weber powered on to a comfortable victory, while Record dropped back and was caught by Sybrandy for second spot, while Sylvain Garde (La Fuga-Sigma) took third spot, 31 seconds off the pace, to add to the second place he secured in round 4 the previous week.

GS Invicta’s Jon Lyon was fastest veteran in seventh place overall, 1-40 behind Webber, VC Deal’s Jack Finch was the best junior rider in tenth and La Fuga-Sigma rider Leona Kadir was best woman.
