IT was all change in the Eastern League tables, with the overall rankings in several categories changing as riders completed their crucial eighth event.
Andrew Nichols (PCA Ciclos Uno) went to the top of the senior league table with his eight rider and his eighth victory in Sunday’s event at Broome Heath, promoted by Iceni Velo at the venue near Ditchingham, Norfolk.
The 22-year-old from Chelmsford jumps from third to top of the table with a maximum 400-point haul which assures him of the 2011-12 league title.
The same has happened in the elite veterans category, where Martin Carter (unattached) goes top after finishing second in that category, and sixth overall.
And second spot in Sunday’s race was enough for Emma Johnson (XRT-Elmy Cycles) to take over at the top of the women’s league with her fourth win. She has not finished outside the top two of any of the races she has won.
Nichols took the senior win by just five seconds from 49-year-old Phil Roach, a 49-year-old elite veteran who usually rides the West Midlands League.
The promoting club’s Tim Guy was third, another 17 seconds off the pace, but drops to third in the overall.
While Roach was the first elite veteran Martin Carter was second, the Cambridge-based rider boosting his hopes of overall glory, while Attleborough’s Andy Manning (Team CCN) won the non-elite veteran’s race.
Anna Buick (University of Manchester) secured her second victory in three races, crossing the line 2:13 ahead of Johnson, while Sherilyn Powell (Chelmer CC) was third.
