After finish third in the previous two rounds, Tim Guy (Iceni Velo) returned to winning ways in round eight of the Elmy Cycles Eastern League, the Colchester Rovers Cross at Furze Hill, Mistley, on Sunday.
Guy, 33 and from Norwich, took over the overall leadership of the Eastern League on the back of the win, where he crossed the line 35 seconds ahead of previous league leader Hayden Wood (unattached).
Having ridden six of the eight rounds so far Guy – who was third overall in last season’s league - has never finished off the podium. But his victory at Furze Hill was only his third time on the top step of the podium.
Behind him and Wood was fastest junior Theo Doncaster in third spot, 2:09 off the pace set by Guy, although the youngster managed to hold off fourth-placed Simon Hance (Ipswich BC) by more than a minute, the vet being 3:17 behind Guy.
Richard Muchmore (West Suffolk Wheelers) won the supporting race for veterans and women, while the fastest female was Emma Johnson (XRT-Elmy Cycles).
Dougal Toms (Iceni Velo) won the youth race despite being an under-14 rider, crossing the line 44 seconds ahead of James Tapley (Lee Valley YCC).
