Darren Barclay (Arctic SRAM RT) showed his class once again as he took first place in round nine of the London League, notching his fourth win of the series.

Dennis Lisbygd (Icknield RC) won in the Eastern League yesterday and was after more success today, leading out on the first lap.

But Barclay soon showed his power as he came through to take the lead and hold onto it for the rest of the race, winning by a margin of around a minute.

Lisbid finished down in third after being overtaken by Taylor Johnstone (Team De Ver) on the final lap of the race.

The land that the course was built on, a former munitions site, had bunkers built into it which had collected plenty of rain resulting in flowing water around the track.

But as the racers lined up, the weather was warm and bright, allowing for a great race.

Darren said after the race: “It was a real battle. I’ve ridden here a few times, I think once it was dry but when it rains it’s really gooey to the point where you can see people coming to a  stand still. You have to keep going, you can’t stop. You just keep pushing all the way round.

“I had a bit of a close shave getting back to start at the end because I had a mechanical problem. Taylor was coming through strong at the end but I wasn’t having to look over my shoulder.

“I overstretched a few weeks back and my legs have just started coming back. They felt better last week at the National Trophy. I’m slowly coming back.”
