Showing strong early-season form, under-23 Nick Barnes (www.zepnat.com RT-Kuota-Spinergy Clothing) rode away from the rest of the field to win the City RC (Hull) floodlit cyclo-cross at Costello Stadium.

The Leeds 19-year-old stretched away to a 52-second victory over senior Gavin Hardwicke (Fossa Racing), who in turn narrowly held off veteran Matt Denby (Team Jewson-Thule) by just four seconds in a tight scrap for second place.

In the youth race there was victory for Liam Gilpin (Wakefield Junior Tri Club), who crossed the line 19 seconds ahead of Nathan Allatt (Holme Valley Wheelers), with third-placed Ben Wait (Lincsquad) more than two minutes further back.

Oliver Downes (Active/Cliff Pratt Cycles) won the Under-12s race, while Olivia Fox (East Bradford CC) was fastest of the girls.
