Event: 6 October 2013
Report: Snowdon Sports

Roger Campbell-Crawford (Team Thomsons Cycles) took his first ever cyclo-cross victory in round one of the Scottish series at Clydebank on Sunday.

On a very technical course around the Auchentoshan Centre, Campbell-Crawford chose to ride his mountain bike which paid off as he flew through the technical sections and steep climbs.

Campbell-Crawford, aged 32 from Crieff was crowned Scottish MTB champion in September and now aims to do the double.

The MTB champion took the lead half-way through the first lap and built up a lead of 12 seconds before Colin May, from Edinburgh came charging back to the leader.

Campbell-Crawford dug into his reserves to increase his gap ahead of the chaser to ten seconds at the finish to take his first ever cyclo-cross victory.

In third place on his own some 46 seconds back was Steven Halsall (Velo Club Moulin).

Speaking after the race Cambell-Crawford said: “It was really pleasing to get my first ever cyclo-cross win after a good season on the mountain bike.

“I aimed to get an early lead so I could take the technical sections at my own speed and that worked well for me.

“I built up a good gap until Colin May closed the gap but I had just recovered enough to put in another burst to secure the win.

“I will be targeting the Scottish Cyclo-Cross series and hope to do the MTB and Cross double, taking the Scottish National Cyclo-Cross title to add to my MTB one.

“However, I know some of the faster guys are away in Europe at the moment so we will have to see how I fair when they get back.”

In the veterans 40-50 race Gary McCrae (Team Leslie Bike Shop) took victory finishing just seven seconds ahead of James Melville (Glasgow United CC).

In the Vets 50+, Juniors and women’s race top junior and race winner was Harry Johnston (Team Thompson Cycles), top veteran was Brendan Roe and first woman and finishing sixth overall was Maddy Robinson.

In the youth race first under-16 and winner was Joseph Nally (Hardie-Bikes), first under-14 was Sean Flynn (Edinburgh RC), first under-16 girl was Rhona Callander (Stirling Bike Club) and first under-14 girl was Anna McGorum (Peebles CC).

Winning the under-12 category boys was Jamie Johnston (Team Thompson Cycles), under-10 boys winner was Finn Mason (West Lothian Clarion CC), first under-12 girl was Niamh Docherty and top under-10 girl was Skye Donnelly (Glasgow Riderz).
