Location: Ostlers Plantation, Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire
Event: 10 November 2013
Report: Snowdon Sports

Defending his win in the same event last season, Rapha Condor pro Graham Briggs showed his versatility when he took victory in round ten of the Lincolnshire League staged by Boston Wheelers at Ostlers Plantation, near Woodhall Spa on Sunday.

Briggs, 30 and from Doncaster, is better known for his road and circuit racing exploits, but he showed he is equally adept in cyclo-cross when he beat Lincolnshire League regulars to victory.

He was 22 seconds ahead of Lincolnshire League leader George Thompson (Sleaford Wheelers), while Mark Cotton (Ellmore Factory Racing) had to be content with third, 42 seconds off Briggs’ pace.

Briggs and Cotton got away on the first lap, while by the second lap Cotton had been dropped and had Thompson for company. Towards the end, Thompson broke clear of Cotton’s clutches.

Adam Cadle (Freetown Sports) took a good fourth spot after previously only securing a few top ten placings, and rode well to hold off some quality riders just behind him.

Briggs won his first cross race of the season back in September when he took victory in the third round of the Cliff Pratt Evening League at the Costello Stadium in Hull.

But last season Briggs made a habit of winning cross races, notching up five victories, including the Boston Wheelers event where he won at Ostlers Plantation by 34 seconds from Mark Cotton.

The course ran through areas of forest with narrow tracks where passing proved difficult, Single tracks were interspersed with lumps. Conditions were dry and the mud was contained in a few areas, making for fast racing which is usual for Ostlers Plantation.
