Beastway 2020 Round 1 - The Weekender XCO (Cancelled)

MTB XC , Ilford – Sunday, 03 May 2020

Event Summary

This event has been cancelled

Event Overview

Beastway 2020  - Our 28th season opens with an upgraded XCO Regional Category A event with more races for separate categories.
10.00 - under 10  10mins short course
10.15 - under 12  15mins short course
11.00 - Youth & Juveniles 30mins
12.00 - Veteran Men 1h15
13.30 - Women; seniors, veterans and juniors 1h15
15.15 - Men; seniors and juniors 1h30

This event offers more points for early-season gridding and will also have its own podium prizes and cash awards. With sufficient pre-entries we can offer more parking in addition to the superb facilities at the Redbridge Cycling Centre. We intend this round to be a bidding platform for a higher status race next year, so let's all help to make it happen with lots of entries!

More races means we can only open course for practice at specified times. Practice during races is strictly not allowed.

Work over the winter has developed more features at Hog Hill. New trail sections and older ones are widened, dug into berms and smoothed out. Technical sections are getting new features and we hope to have something for everyone to enjoy whilst still welcoming riders at all levels of experience.
Please let us know if you have any ideas about course preparation or can offer to help. While you’re racing for maybe an hour, we’re up there digging for days!

After this weekend race your Beastway offers a full series of midweek evening races in May and June with our usual all-for-one format bringing you full-on race training and experience. Under-12 and youth racing is a focus for us and their short course format is proven to be great at bringing riders up properly.

We have funded development programmes for young riders over the last two years and we aim to expand this to sessions at Hog Hill for women and for youth riders who want to move into the junior ranks with speed and confidence, whether in XCO or Cyclocross. Look out for details as the season approaches since it’s important for us to broaden our offer.

Beastway 2020 race dates:-
Sunday 3 May - XCO
Wednesdays evenings on 6, 13, 20 & 27 May. 3, 10, 17, 24 June.

After the nine rounds of Beastway MTB we bring you four rounds of Summer Cyclocross series on Thursdays in July, organised with the help of Dulwich Paragon and Penge CC.

Our summer is complete with two off-road sportive endurance rides based on our experience organising the super-popular Tour of the Cornfields (Sunday 6 September). This new event is in Kent with full details to follow later but we can tell you it’s a full 100k loop with plenty of elevation change and a great cake stop to make for a wonderful day out on your bike, whether it’s cross or MTB.

All of our events are run by volunteers just like us. We’re always on the look out for more people to help us and who are welcome to learn about organising bike events. We’ll happily give an entry to anyone who can let us know in advance about coming to help at any particular race and we can always find something to do. If you want to help on a more regular basis, we will welcome you in. Email us at beastway'at'btinternet.com

Info for Riders

Round 1 is on Sunday 3 May and it's a full XCO event with separate races for many categories. This means a relatively tight schedule so please be ready for your practice lap 20 minutes before your scheduled start time.

From r2 we switch back to the usual Wednesday evening race format where all seniors and above start together for an hour, with youth riders joining after 20 minutes.

Please make sure you enter the race that's appropriate for your age group. Seniors should also enter the relevant race for MTB XC - elite, expert or sport - as this will help us to get BC points for you.

A full series entry will save you a lot of time and money, plus you will get a personalised number plate.
