Would you like the chance to race in a Mini Downhill at the Worlds’ series, directly before the World Championships at Fort William?

Working with the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, Scottish Cycling has created a ‘Race The Worlds’ series. This features regional qualification races across the country, with qualifiers going on to earn a place to race at the Race the Worlds.

We are delighted to be hosting a Mini Downhill at Ae Forest on Saturday 27th May. 

Everyone is welcome to enter, but only those young riders who live in South West or West regions will be eligible to qualify for the finals. 

Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd will be awarded. The top 3 from the region will qualify for the Race the Worlds series, to race directly before the World Championships at Fort William. 

Races will be in the following categories:

Under 16/Youth (Born 2007 & 2008) Male and Female

Under 14/Juvenile (Born 2009 & 2010) Male and Female 

Under 12 (Born 2011 & 2012) Male and Female 

We will also have U19 category (born 2005 & 2006), but riders in this category won’t be able to qualify to race at Fort William.  We hope that you will still enjoy the chance to compete in a Mini Downhill at Ae.

The race aims to introduce downhill racing while still providing a challenge for more experienced riders. Any younger riders can be accompanied by an adult if required.

The full course will be rollable with drops no taller than a wheel axle at any point. Any technical features will have a fully rollable B line. The A line will be the harder main line and the B line will be the alternative.

The race will be organised and administered under British Cycling using Scottish Cycling terms and conditions and the Mountain Bike Downhill specific regulations. 

South West region - Dumfries and Galloway and Ayrshire

West (Argyll & Bute, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow City, Inverclyde, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, West Dunbartonshire, South Lanarkshire)

Race Weekend Schedule

The following are approximate times, but we will do our best to keep to schedule.

FRIDAY

Course setup.

Track walk only

SATURDAY

Sign-on                                                8.30am to 9.30am

Course open for practice                    10.00am to 11.45am

First Race runs begin                          12:00 noon

Second Race runs begin                     2.30pm

Prize giving                                          5.30pm

Please note that a Full Face helmet MUST be worn at all times when you are on the downhill course.
