About the Event

Info for Riders

Sunday July 21st, 2024.

Racing starts at 12.30  (warm up from 11.45) and finishes at 6 pm (with the final stage of the Tour de France will be on in the Pavilion)

Teams of 4 Men or 4 Women compete over 6 track disciplines.

Entry is £60 per team (£15 per rider) Spectators are free.

Entry is via Rider HQ (FHHV Senior Team Champs, 21st July 2024)

1 rider from each team will compete in the Sprint and Individual Pursuit events, 2 riders from each team will compete in the Scratch, Keirin, and Team Devil and all 4 team members will make up the Team Pursuit. Each rider must compete in 3 events, 1 of each colour /session in the Program of Events.

The first six riders in each event will be awarded points for their team: 1st = 6 points, 2nd = 5 points, 3rd = 4 points, etc. In events involving 2 riders from 1 team only the first rider in each team will score points. But if the second rider is in the top 6 they will prevent another team from taking the points for that place (except in the Team Devil).

In the Team Devil, if one rider is out the other rider from that team is out (learn your team mate’s number!) Numbers will be called on turn 2 and eliminated teams will be indicated before turn 3. When just 2 teams are left (4 riders), the winner’s 6 points will go to the rider who wins the final sprint. (the other team will get the 5 for 2nd)

The Team Pursuit will be worth double points: 1st = 12, 2nd = 10, 3rd = 8, etc. Teams will start on the pursuit lines in reverse order according to overall standings. Lowest ranked team starts on the back straight. Time will be taken from 3rd rider.

Sprint Progression: Riders should line up in number order at the start of the back straight for Sprint Qualifiers (first events of the meeting). Semi-Finals will be determined by ‘flying’ 200m times. 1st fastest will race 4th fastest, 2nd will race 3rd, 5th will race 8th and 6th will race 7th etc. Results of these races will then determine the Finals

Keirin Heats: These will be selected prior to the event by randomly drawing lots. The 2 riders from each team should go in number order; the lower number rider goes in first heat containing their team name. The top 2 riders from the 3 heats will progress to the final. Other riders will contest 2 minor-finals (no points but still fun!) All races will be run over 3 laps, the Derny pulling off at 500m to go (1 lap = 450m) The Keirin riders should go in the heats in number order, lowest first.

The best supported team (judged by a neutral-ish party) wins a crate of Canopy Beer. Other prizes provided by the Friends of Herne Hill Velodrome. Returnable Trophy for the winning teams designed and made by Clive Burr Jewellery

Ride safely (it’s not the Olympics). Have Fun. Stay for a beer.
