King and Queen of the Bowl Criterium Race Series #9

Closed Circuit , Milton Keynes – Thursday, 20 Jun 2024

Event Summary

Event Overview

April 2024 sees the return of Thursday evening MK Bowl Criterium races.  Details of entry and timing chip allocation will be shown in rider information.  There will be one period of two weeks in August when the circuit is not available as the MK Bowl is being used for concerts.

This will be a league series with the best counting results used to create the league table.  There will be 16 events in total with the first 15 being counting weeks towards the league table and the last week being a standalone event.  The best 10 results of 15 events will count for the league tables.  The Women's race will be 234 each week with Elite and Cat 1 Women able to enter the later Open races so all women's categories can enter a race every week.

The racing format is as follows:

  • Open 4 and Women’s 234 races running 1 min apart concurrently on the inner Bowl course starting at 6:15 pm in April and August and 6:30 in May, June, July.  Subject to conditions we will run the early races on an extended loop one week in four.

Followed by

  • Open 34 (including Women 12) and Open E123 (including Women Elite and Cat 1) races on the extended loop courses (subject to weather conditions) running 1 minute apart concurrently starting at 7.05 pm April and August then 7.25 in May, June, July.

Local rules will apply and will be made clear via all communication formats.

A maximum of 80 riders may compete at the Bowl at any one time, so numbers will be allocated as below:

  • Race 1:  Men’s 4 race - 40 rider limit. Women's 234 race - 40 rider limit.
  • Race 2: Open 34 race - 50 rider limit. Open E123 race - 30 rider limit.

The King and Queen of the Bowl League Tables can be viewed on the TeamMK Website.

Prizes and series Trophies will be awarded by our sponsors Corley Cycles and Abbeygate Developments.

  • Sign on will be at the Bowl Pavilion just inside the main entrance.
Timing Chips
  • Timing chips will be allocated to each rider at sign on.
  • To ensure the most accurate timing possible, chips should be mounted to the front forks - non brake side recommended for disc brake bikes.
  • Latex innertube will be provided at sign on which can be slid up the bike fork, with the chip then placed under the innertube.
  • The Latex innertubes can be kept for use at subsequent events.
  • More details on how to mount the chip can be found here:  Guide to fork mounting your chip
  • Riders not wishing to fork mount the chip may use leg straps instead - please ask for one at sign on.
  • Leg straps must be returned to the organiser on the night.
  • Note, leg mounted chips are inherently less accurate - so riders choosing to use them do so accepting the reduced accuracy of their timing.
  • No other location may be used for the timing chips - they must be fork or leg mounted only.
  • All chips must be returned to sign on once the riders race is complete.
  • During warm up riders should ride over the finish mat so the timing team can check the chip signal is registering.
  Results
  • We are using a chip timing system to record rider's finishing positions.
  • Lapped riders may be pulled from the event before the finish.
  • Provisional results can be found on my.raceresult.com.
