Cotton Burner Triple 2024 Round 2

MTB XC , Nr Bodmin – Wednesday, 26 Jun 2024

Event Summary

Event Overview

Three mountain bike events for the price of one!   Played out over three weeks after work on Wednesday evenings for the first two rounds, but take note, new this year, we're going to host the last round on the evening of Friday 5th July.  A simple points system allows us to take your best two results out of three in order to calculate a winner at the last event. You have the option of ducking out of your least favourite event but you will forfeit a podium opportunity! However you can marshal or bring along your skills from civilian life i.e. medical or brewing! The Catch? We wont disclose in what order the first two rounds will run until the day. It could be XC or the old enduro, newly named time trial lines?! (remember back in the day, mate’s racing, when one bike suited all occasions?!). Ethos: I hope you are getting the point that this isn’t meant to be too serious?! It's more about bringing mountain bikers together from all disciplines and all abilities of our great sport and pastime. Women ride with men, young and old! Be kind and let's just concentrate on ragging bikes around for fun with our mates.  Whether you are a racing snake, gnarly downhiller, trail rider or social rider, this will provide you with a unique and fun experience in an otherwise closed to the public woodland and nature reserve located in the foothills of the Great Grogley Downs, Camel Valley (just off the Camel Trail).  This is an event primarily aimed at adults (We run a separate schools event) but there will be a selection of junior riders (16 - 17) invited to take part. No Dogs / pets permitted at Cotton Wood.   Time Trial (formally known as the Enduro): Test your line choices over the three timed predominantly gravity fed lines. (Maybe a little bit of peddling!) XCO: The classic XC 3.6KM loop designed to test the best or just enjoy the riverside course on this private woodland nature reserve. Fear not downhillers, this will last no longer than 50 minutes! New to 2024 incorporating the Gator Eliminator - Team Enduro Relay: Fast and furious, multiple laps over two hours - Teams of 4 go head to head picking the best lines over four stages within a 3.5KM course lap swapping with team mates at well placed transition zones. Don't get too comfortable - expect  the occasional siren signifying a 'Hot Lap' where a rider currently on course has to complete a whole lap!  By the time two hours has elapsed the course size is reduced to a shorter sprint lap and the slowest teams who have covered the least amount of laps will start to be eliminated(!) until we are left with the four fastest riders representing their teams for one last lap for the win and glory!    DIRECTIONS: Ride the Camel Trail and exit at Grogley Halt and follow signs towards Cotton Wood, Directly opposite Grogley on the road to Nanstallon. IMPORTANT: NO PARKING AT COTTON WOOD FOR ROUND 1 & 2, (Limited parking for those camping on round 3),  OR ON THE ROADS BETWEEN GROGLEY HALT AND COTTON WOOD. POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED IF YOU DO AND WE WILL KNOW!! As with previous years, we've been working with Forestry England to try promote cycling to Grogley, Bishops and Hustyns via the Camel Trail. Please try to cycle to this event and reduce your carbon footprint like the good cyclist you are. If you do have to drive because you are coming from further afield, we suggest Dunmere at the Borough Arms (They sell beer don't you know(!) and is only 2.5km away), and at the head of the trail at Wadebridge (3.5km away from Cotton Wood). Come off the trail at Grogley Halt, turn left out onto the road and follow the signs. There is limited space at Polbrock and Grogley Halt is now permanently closed as a car park. Do park responsibly and DON'T PARK ON THE ROAD. Please be mindful of the local residence, and do give them a cheery hello if you see them.
