Event summary

The Icebreaker Series is back once again for 2025! This seasons annual Icebreaker, at Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales, will include 3 rounds of endurance-based Omniums for youth riders. Each round includes Scratch, Elimination and Points races for each category. Boys and girls will be racing separately.

Medals will be awarded after each round and British Cycling points will be awarded. There will also be trophies awarded for the overall series winner. Icebreakers are an ideal opportunity for competent and confident youth riders to enjoy a taste of competition on the indoor velodrome. Young people will need recent experience riding on an indoor velodrome. (Youth Session for this are available on a Wednesday 6pm – 8pm every week)

 There will be NO REFUNDS at any point after booking so please make sure you are able to attend before committing to the booking.

Icebreaker Sprint Series

Open to youth A and B riders. The number of entries will be limited to 12 Girls and 12 Boys between both categories. The race format will include a flying 200 and a minimum of 2 sprint races for all riders. Racing will take place during the afternoon session.

For 2025 we will be Scheduling as below and more exact timings will be shared alongside the race manual in the next few weeks  - AM - Youth C Boys & Girls            Youth B Girls            Youth A & B Sprint PM - Youth A & B Boys            Youth A Girls The Youth A boys will consist of 2 heats and a final in the scratch and points races due to the large numbers. The top 12 from race 1 & 2 of the heats will then proceed to the final. Due to lower numbers in the Girls C races, we may have to merge them into the B girls unless there are significantly more entries over the next few weeks so please help spread the word.

Info for Riders

Youth C riders and Youth B Girl riders will complete their omnium during the Saturday morning (10.00am start). All Youth A and Youth B Boys riders will compete in the afternoon.

 If your indoor race experience is limited, please contact the organiser in advance for guidance. There will be 3 events per category: Scratch, Points and Elimination.

No disc or deep section (50mm+) wheels will be allowed for Youth categories.

Non riders and supporters are encouraged to use the stands (note - one adult per rider will be allowed track centre during morning session. Afternoon session ONLY RIDERS will be allowed track centre). This adds to the atmosphere and allows young riders to develop their experience of race day organisation. There will be commissaires and coaches in attendance to assist any rider with kit or other challenges!
