Ali's Profile
Ali Fielding has played a key role in the team sprint event in the past few seasons and this summer, he will set his sights on a place in the squad representing Great Britain at the summer Olympic Games in Paris.
Fielding first tasted victory on an international level when in 2021, he took under-23 gold in the team sprint alongside Hamish Turnbull, Hayden Norris and James Bunting at the UEC U23 European Track Championships in Apeldoorn in the Netherlands. It was to be the first medal in a developing career that would see him hone his speed on the track and make the step up to elite level in 2022.
Growing up in Dorset did not detract from Fielding’s Scottish heritage, and later that year he made his debut for Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where he competed in both the keirin and individual sprint events.
Immediately after the Commonwealth Games, Fielding made his debut at elite level for Great Britain at the European Championships in Munich, Germany. Riding with Jack Carlin and Hamish Turnbull for the first time, Fielding and the team won their bronze medal ride-off and began a fruitful working relationship. They continued competing together and later in the year at the UCI World Championships secured another bronze medal in the Saint Quentin en Yvelines velodrome in Paris.
A few months later, in February 2023, they returned for another UEC European Track Championships in Grenchen, Switzerland, where they went one better than their 2022 performances and claimed a silver medal, with the addition of Joe Truman to the team.
With Olympic selection firmly in their sights, the team sprint trio of Carlin, Fielding and Turnbull began 2024 by narrowly missing out on a medal by less than one hundredth of a second in their bronze medal race against Poland at the UEC European Track Championships in Apeldoorn. Most recently, Fielding competed at the UCI World Cup in Hong Kong in a different configuration with Truman and Hayden Norris. The team finished sixth in that competition.
