Emily's Profile
BMX racing’s up-and-coming star Emily Hutt will be travelling to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games as a reserve rider, following a break-out season in her first year as an under-23.
Hutt was clearly destined for a life of competitive cycling, growing up in a family of bike-lovers, including an older brother and younger sister who both competed at an elite level. From the age of three, Hutt took to the BMX race tracks in Hayes, near her hometown of Ashford in Kent, and she began competing a year later aged just four-years-old in an under-six event.
Hutt continued to consistently medal as she grew through the age groups, and in 2023, she was accepted onto the Great Britain Cycling Team’s Podium Potential programme, moving to Manchester where she trains alongside her close friend Beth Shriever, and the wider squad.
A crash during a race in March 2023 saw Hutt suffer a concussion that kept her out of racing for five weeks. Hutt continued to suffer with setbacks, following a series of further crashes, but eventually rediscovered her form and bounced back in time to race to a silver medal in the UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow later that year. The achievement put Hutt in on course to target Olympic qualification, and she continued an upward trajectory throughout the rest of the season.
Hutt had successful runs in both the European and world cup series races, picking up several wins and podiums, including bronze in the world cup round in Brisbane, and achieving a second place finish overall in the European cup standings.
2024 has so far represented arguably the perfect build towards the Olympics for Hutt, who has claimed two significant silver medals in recent months at both the UEC BMX Racing European Championships in Verona, Italy, and the UCI BMX World Championships in Rock Hill, USA. Despite this being her first-year riding at the under-23 level, Hutt is already proving that she is on form to support Shriever in reserve capacity in Paris, with sights on future Games.
