Ross' Profile
A product of the Preston Pirates BMX Club, Ross Cullen has a wealth of international experience, and was selected as a travelling reserve for both the Tokyo and Paris Olympic Games.
Cullen discovered BMX racing at the age of six when he was inspired by his local BMX track in Preston. His development was swift, with a fourth-place finish in his youth age group at the 2011 world championships in Copenhagen, before taking the youth title in 2012 and again in 2015. In 2018, Cullen attended the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina and was selected as Great Britain’s flagbearer during the opening ceremony.
Cullen began to show his full potential on the international BMX circuit in 2019 and was crowned the junior European champion in Latvia. That year also saw Cullen become a major force at the junior level of the discipline, winning the British national crown and finishing first and second in rounds of the UEC European Cup in Zolder and Verona. An eighth-place finish in the UCI BMX Junior World Championships rounded off his breakthrough season, which also saw Cullen battle injuries that led to two months off the bike.
After going to the Tokyo Olympic Games as a travelling reserve in 2021, Cullen continued to remain hungry for results, and took third place at the UEC BMX European Cup in Verona in 2022. In April 2023, Cullen achieved two more European cup podiums with another third place finish in Verona and a win in Zolder.
At the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow, Cullen had a fantastic competition, making his first ever elite world championship final and finished in sixth place overall – the best position for the Great Britain Cycling Team BMX racing men’s squad.
Cullen trains with the squad in Manchester and heading into 2024, the young rider proved his potential to be up there with the best, securing his first ever world cup podium with a second place finish in the third round in Brisbane, Australia. He continued his fine form, claiming a second place at the European cup in Zolder in March, podiuming with teammates Kye Whyte and Paddy Sharrock.
Cullen has continued to show his ability to perform under pressure, taking a sensational win at the Paris Operational Test event in April, setting him in good stead ahead of the Paris Olympic Games.
