Will Bjergfelt has established himself as a consistent rider on the road and track in the highly-competitive MC5 category, having won his debut world-level medal in 2019.

Bjergfelt initially started as an elite mountain bike rider, before he switched his focus to road racing where he enjoyed some impressive results on the domestic scene, before his career turned in an unexpected direction.  

Bjergfelt was hit head-on by a car whilst training near his native Bristol in September 2015 sustaining a number of life-threatening injuries. The severity of the injury he suffered to his right leg meant that he was eligible for para-cycling in the C5 classification, where has found great success.

A first medal at world level arrived in the shape of a silver in the scratch race at the 2019 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Apeldoorn, and he came agonisingly close to repeating that feat on the road later in the year, when he registered a fourth-place finish in both the road race and time trial at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships.

In 2021, Bjergfelt made history as the first para-cyclist to ever take to the start line at the Tour of Britain, representing the Great Britain Cycling Team, and was also the second oldest participant the race has ever had at 42-years-old.

Age certainly hasn’t held Bjergfelt back, and in 2023, he had his most successful season to date, kicking off with his first World Cup gold medal win in Ostend in May, before adding two bronze medals to his collection during the world cup series.

The UCI 2023 Cycling World Championships in Glasgow saw Bjergfelt relish in front of a home crowd, taking the men’s C5 road race world title after a fantastic sprint finish. Bjergfelt also took top 10 finishes on the track and finished seventh in the men’s C5 individual time-trial.  

Bjergfelt also rides domestically for Saint Piran and competes in the National Road Series.
