Connor Hudson, Hannah Escott and Duncan Ferris were crowned the winners of the seventh and eighth rounds of the National 4X Series in Falmouth.
Carrick Riders Mountain Bike Club hosted the weekend of racing on an incredible track, with a great mix of overtaking, multi lines and technical sections.
Round 7
After a practice session in the morning, racing commenced with the elite men’s motos. Every race could have been a final, such was the depth of talent. After three motos, it was Connor Hudson and Ian Forsyth with strong wins to sail through to the final.
With such depth, the semi-finals were always going to be tough, with race favourites Duncan Ferris, Ben Jones, Tom Bell and Jack Hudson all eliminated. Ferris went onto win the small final and claim fifth on the podium.
In the final, it was another dominating ride by Hudson to claim his fifth win of the season, ahead of Forsyth. However, the biggest cheers of the day were reserved for local rider and original track builder Will Evans. Coming out of retirement, Evans finished third as Cornish rider Charlie Curries claimed fourth.
Hannah Escott put down the microphone on Saturday to race in the elite women’s category, taking the win ahead of Catherine Oldfield, Charlie Dobson, Claire Mardell and Lily McCoy.
Evie Knight, Seth Kucharik, Harry Donald, Jack Davey, Jono Harradine, Lucas Rose, Joe Wallbridge, Simon Nash, Richard Rowland and Kevin Sykes all took the wins in their respective categories.
Round 8
With a couple of major track changes, there was a new challenge for the riders with a couple of big grass corners added to Sunday’s track.
There was big drama in practice when Connor Hudson crashed, injuring his hip and unfortunately put him on the sidelines for the day.
Local rider Tom Bell unfortunately did not make the final, but took the small final win and claimed fifth for the day.
In the final, the gate dropped and it was crowd favourite Duncan Ferris with the holeshot. Ian Forsyth and Jack Hudson were close behind, with Charlie Currie using all the lines with his local knowledge. On the lower corners, Forsyth showed Ferris the front wheel a couple of times, but he knew how to hold the inside lines and across the finish line it was Ferris, Forsyth, Hudson and Currie.
The final rounds of series take place on 28-29 September at Twisted Oaks in Suffolk.
