Sponsor relations and new year preparations...

So the season has now finished and the winter season of signing sponsors is in full swing. Just over a week ago I was at the Cycle Show in Earls Court, London, and there were alot of Elite 4X and Downhill riders there, doing the rounds, up and down the hall having meetings with current sponsors and looking out for new ones!!

As a pro rider, this is the hardest time of year if you do not have a multiyear contract. The uncertainty and the hours of chasing the'right' person add up to a few sleepless nights for a lot of riders. However, the reward for a great year is always there and top riders 99% of the time find themselves in demand and on the circuit again for another year.

2010 is shaping up to be an exciting year. The World Cup series has been trimmed back to just 6 rounds, so consistency is what everyone will be looking for. A zero score at any WC in 2010 could spell disaster for your overall chances. For the first time in I think 5 years, the World Cup is returning to the USA for the final round at Windham which is on the East coast close to New York. A race my fiancé Holly is really looking forward to, although it could be more to do with shopping that the World Cup finals!! Just a week after that, the World Championships have been moved to - in my opinion, the right date in the calendar, right after the final World Cup at the Start of September.

So for me my real training begins next week. I will be back on my 4X bike a couple of times at Burnham and Manchester BMX tracks, back at DW Fitness to start my gym training and I have a friend of mine - Dave Richardson's birthday which is going to involve an all day or night cross country ride!! A bunch of friends have also joined a 6 a side football league and they want me to play every Wednesday night. I haven't played in years, but I think they want my 4X legs to stick the ball through the back of the net a couple of times per night!!!!!

So that's all for now. I will be writing a diary for British Cycling every couple of weeks so be sure to check back and catch up with what's happening.

Happy Halloween and happy Guy Faulkes night!!
