Olympic cross-country

Annie Last took her second win of the weekend to be crowned the ultimate mountain bike cross-country queen with her victory in the Olympic discipline, while Cameron Orr secured the open title.

In the elite women’s race, Grace Inglis stormed the first lap and looked to be well ahead, before Last fought over to bridge the gap and then cruised past her to take the win. Inglis had to settle for second, while Amy Henchoz came in third.

Having had a successful season in both mountain bike and road disciplines this year, Orr stormed off the line, determined to take the national title in the elite open race. Orr took an early lead, with Thomas Mein chasing him the entire race. But it wasn’t to be, as Orr took the win with his arms aloft, while Mein had to settle for silver ahead of Ben Wadey in bronze.

In the under-23 equivalent, Olympic debutant Ella Maclean-Howell took the under-23 title by over five minutes, putting her in good stead ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games. Anna Flynn picked up second, as Emily Carrick-Anderson secured third, having returned to racing after injury.

Cameron Orr

In the under-23 open race, Max Greensill simulated his performance in the short track race with a powerful performance on Sunday. Despite setting off a minute after the senior race, Greensill managed to catch the seniors and finish second overall. Sam Chisholm came second and Simon Wyllie took the bronze.

Max Standen took the junior open crown ahead of Dec Oldham and Ben Coppola, while Bethany Ann Jackson was crowned the junior women’s winner, with Daisy Taylor and Madeline Moorhouse Smith winning silver and bronze, respectively.
