Report: 2010 Welsh Mountain Bike Championships

Fforest Fields, Builth Wells was the setting for the 2010 Welsh MTB Championships. Glorious sunshine, heat and a lot dust greeted the riders as they battled it out on the tough and demanding course designed by John Lloyd Racing.

Top Welsh Elite rider Lee Williams of Team Wiggle defended his title for another season with a dominant performance in the Elite Men's race proud to pull on the Champion System backed Welsh Champions jersey for another season.

The Elite women's title was won by Horizon fitness Mountain Bike star Gabby Day. In a well fought race Gabby was able to over haul her rivals to claim the title in comfortable fashion.

In the Espoirs event Sion O'boyle finished 4th overall helping him to claim a well deserved Espoirs title.

In the Junior men's event, Ben Roff also defended his title from a determined Joe Home. Ben Roff is a regular on the National MTB scene and is proud to wear his champion's jersey for another season.

 

In the Masters Championship event which attracted the biggest number of entrants. Phil Morris made his way through the heat haze and dust to emerge the winner ahead of an inspired Anthony Malarczyk. The Masters women's event was won by Cheri Mills.

The Veterans always put on a good display of racing and this was certainly the case for Team ACDC rider Ross Porter.

In the Grand Vets race Matt Scarse walked away with the jersey and the title ahead of Tony Blackwell and Steve Taylor.

In the Youth boy's event Adam King managed to win the Welsh Champions title after a mechanical failure put an end William Worral's chances of claiming title.

The Youth girl's title was won by Newport Velo's Rebecca Hunt. Hunt is looking to develop in mountain bike racing and with a win like this under her belt her confidence will have been given a huge boost.

Juvenile boy's event was won by the ever impressive Dylan Kerfoot-Robosn. Kerfoot is making his way back to form after breaking his collar bone in an early season accident. The girl's event was won by Abergavenny RC impressive Ffion James who gave a lot of the boys a run for their money during the race.

Following in his older brothers foot steps Solomon Kerfoot-Robson riding in the under 10's was really pleased to pull on his Champions jersey and make it a family double. Megan James of Abergavenny RC was also as pleased to claim the winners top spot and jersey.

In the under 12's event, Nathan Ford of Abergavenny RC dominated the race from start to finish to win the Welsh Champions title for the 2nd year running. Elen Bird crossed the line in 1st place to take the girls title.

Welsh Cycling would like to thank all of the riders for making the event a great day and especially John Lloyd racing and his team for staging the event.
