Channel 4 newsreader, Jon Snow, is urging people across the Capital to get on their bikes in support of The Prostate Cancer Charity's Tour Ride in central London.

Jon hopped off his bike to make the special appeal to people in every borough just ahead of the cycling event, which is taking place in Westminster this Sunday (18 September), before the final stage of the professional Tour of Britain race that afternoon.

The exhilarating 20km route - part of official stage of The Tour of Britain - will take cyclists on a route past some of the most iconic landmarks in the Capital whilst raising funds to fight the most common cancer in men in the UK.

Speaking about the upcoming London Tour Ride, Jon, said: 'Like most cyclists living and working in London I'm used to enduring nose to tail vehicles, ear-splitting traffic noise and a fog of emissions. The Prostate Cancer Charity's London Tour Ride is a unique opportunity to cycle through silent, traffic-free streets in the heart of the capital. So sign up! We want riders from every borough crossing that Tour of Britain finish line in Whitehall.

"Most of us jobbing cyclists will never compete in the UK's most prestigious race The Tour of Britain, but sign up for The Tour Ride, it's the next best thing. You'll riding the same route as the professionals will a couple of hours later, so you're guaranteed to cross that finish line ahead of that elite international field. The Tour Rides are a one-off opportunity to have a highly enjoyable, memorable day following whilst also raising awareness of the most cancer in men in the UK."

The Charity launched its Tour Ride events, which offer the opportunity to ride in ‘the tracks of the pros' on an official stage of The Tour of Britain, three years ago, and they have gone from strength to strength. More than 4,500 people took to two wheels last year, and the Charity has extended the number of events it will stage this year from three to five, offering brand new events in Wales, Scotland and East Anglia. The rides are also returning to Stoke-on-Trent, as well as the Capital.

Speaking about the upcoming Scotland Tour Ride, Katie Robbins, Tour of Britain Project Manager at The Prostate Cancer Charity, says: "The Tour Ride in London offers people of all cycling abilities the chance to blaze a trail for the professional riders along the streets of Capital while raising vitals fund to support the work of The Prostate Cancer Charity.

"Over the past three years, The Prostate Cancer Charity has developed strong links with professional and amateur cyclists through our partnership with The Tour of Britain which have been invaluable in helping us to get many more people thinking about the disease."
