National Youth Series Bradford

Saturday 11th July 2009; White Rose Youth League Round
By Andrew Kennedy

Round 9 of the British Cycling National Youth Circuit Series was held in Bradford on Saturday, July 11 at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre. The purpose built race circuit is a popular venue for youth races and training events in the North of England and would favour riders who had scars on their knees and elbows from the Richard Dunn tarmac to prove their knowledge of the fast sweeping bends and technical circuit.

With the series leaders in the Youth A Boys event giving Bradford a miss, it was a perfect opportunity for local riders to pick up a win whilst the Youth A girls top placed riders were all at Bradford battling to maximise their places in the overall standings.

The organisers of the race had last minute negotiations with the Sports Centre management for the races to go ahead on Saturday afternoon. The NHS had taken over the Richard Dunn complex as a medical emergency centre, which meant members of the public would need to cross over parts of the circuit. A slight circuit change, additional marshal's and determination on the part of the race organisation team resulted in the racing being saved.
