Trott Wins Team Series Finale

Emma Trott, riding for Mischief Card.com won the final event in the season-long Women's Team Race Series held on a testing circuit at Griffydam organised by Nick Horner-Maddocks and the Coalville Wheelers,. She left her breakaway companion Anne Fischer, Max Gear RT with about 3 miles to go to the finish for a splendid solo win.

The main action of the day started early after 11 miles had been covered, when Alex Tyrer, Twickenham CC, got away on her own. She rapidly opened a gap of 32 seconds when, two miles later, Trott and Fischer gave chase and latched on and the pace increased. Alex Tyrer lost contact when the sprint on lap 2 came and went and the leading duo of Fischer and Trott really made gains on the bunch.

With a rider each from the two teams who have dominated the Team Series this year in front the bunch was well controlled by their team mates and so the gap increased to 1 minute 10 seconds then with 18 miles covered to 1 minute 45 seconds. With 24 miles under their wheels the gap was now nearly 4 minutes and the two leaders were working really well; 45 miles covered and the gap was a massive 6 minutes 30 seconds - the biggest gap all year.

With 3 miles to go Emma launched her attack on a small drag out of a corner and although her lead hovered around 10 seconds it very gradually increased to allow her to fling her arms aloft crossing the line. In the chasing bunch, realising that Team Series points were so vital Marianne Britten, Max Gear RT and Sarah Byrne, Mischief Card.com both got away with Marianne beating her rival to the line.

The only down note on the day was the crash with just a mile covered with Angie Thorp, BCF Eastern coming off worse with road rash on her face and arms - and an attractive claret coloured covering put on by First Aid (hope it washes off!). Julie Brown, West Midlands was also caught in this crash but although she chased back on, in her first road race, and actually made the bunch the efforts told.

So ended another seriously good year for the Women's Team race Series which has seen almost full fields for each of its 8 events.
