Report: Isle of Man's Youth League (Rd 18)

Story posted August 20, 2010 | by Dot Tilbury

A total of 207 competitors turned out at the NSC last Tuesday night for round 18 of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's Youth League. In the novices class Sophia Littlewood cruised to her eighth win in a row. Sam Cunningham was second and Ryan Blair beat Joel Garrett, Albert Kessler and Emma Stratford in the tussle for third. Mia Littlewood outsprinted Ealish Cook for seventh and Matilda Clague squeezed out Amy Quayle for ninth.

Harry Kneen rode clear of the field for an other impressive solo victory in the born 2005 & later age group. Joseph Humphrey was a safe second and Chloe Comaish got the better of Zachary Dowson in the dash for the final place on the podium. Mairi Harrison escaped from the chasing group to grab fifth and Luca Moretta got the verdict in the bunch sprint for sixth.

In a very close finish Zac Walker pipped Dillon Dowson for the honours in the born 2004 event. Joshua Dudley came from behind to snatch third from Ralf Holden and James Devereau overtook Cameron Dudley on the last lap to nab fifth. Ben Boyle was seventh and Oliver Harrison led Mia Worthington, Lucy Corlett and Ross Quayle over the line for eighth.

After breaking away from a leading group of four riders, Jake Wilson edged out Jack Christian in the battle for the number one slot in the born 2003 category. Matthew Black and the ever improving Tyler Hannay trailed in for third and fourth positions respectively, while Jack Collister outgunned Ryan Quirk for fifth. Thomas Skillicorn came out on top in the group gallop for seventh.

Aaron Lund caught early leader Will Corkill on the penultimate lap and won the final sprint to notch up his maiden win in the born 2002 race. James Harrison outpaced Nicholas Kissack for third and fifth placed Blae Cain finished just ahead of Charlie Moss to secure the girls' prize.

Juan Kneen was the victor in the four-way scrap that decided the outcome of the born 2001 class. Tyler Cain was second followed by Max Walker and Adam Scarffe. Peel's Tosh Teare was a good fifth and Chloe Crellin the best girl in sixth spot.

An aggressive Sam Batey rode away from breakaway partners Lucas Mudie and Ben Christian to pick up his first win in the born 2000 event and Breeshey Cain overcame Phoebe Ferguson to bag maximum points in the born 1999-97 grouping.

In the under 10 racing bikes winner William Draper had to work hard to keep Sam Batey, Thomas Bostock and Ben Christian at bay. Max Walker won the bunch sprint for fifth and Chloe Crellin did well on her first outing on a "droppies" to finish best girl in tenth place.

The width of a tyre is all that separated winner Michael Moss and runner-up Dan Watterson at the end of the under 12 racing bikes. Conor Davies and Callum Clague were third and fourth, with Matthew Ward having his best ride of the season in fifth position.

A delighted Alex Haddock was the first time winner of the under 16 racing bikes 20 lapper, outsprinting Nick Corlett after they had lapped the field. Jamie Everitt broke free from the bunch and worked hard to unlap himself and take a fine third place, while Jamie Dudley headed the chasers in for fourth.
