Haussler leads Cervelo at Tour of Britain

Story posted August 25, 2010 | Event Press Release

Tour de France stage winner to lead Cervelo in Britain
Heinrich Haussler leads Cervelo, as final five provisional line-ups for Tour of Britain confirmed
Heinrich Haussler, a stage winner in the 2009 Tour de France, will lead the Cervelo Test Team at The Tour of Britain next month, in a six rider line-up that also includes home favourites Jeremy Hunt and Daniel Lloyd, plus last year’s third placed finisher Martin Reimer. Completing the seventeen team Tour of Britain line-up alongside Cervelo will be Colnago – CSF Inox, ISD – Neri Giambenini, Ireland and the Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team.

Colnago will be led by 2010 Giro d’Italia stage winner Manuel Belletti, while Vacansoleil includes 2009 Vuelta a España stage winner Borut Bozic, recent Tour of Poland double jersey winner Johnny Hoogerland and Netherlands World Championship hopeful Wout Poels. In addition to Haussler, Cervelo also boast another Grand Tour stage winner in Ignatas Konovalovas, who won the final stage time trial of the 2009 event, while double Tour of Britain stage winner Roger Hammond is expected to be called into the squad if he isn’t needed as a reserve for Cervelo’s Vuelta a España team.

Having ridden The Tour of Britain in 2009, ISD return to the race with double Tour top ten finisher Simon Clarke.  The Italo-Ukrainian outfit had been intending to bring Italian National Champion Giovanni Visconti, but a late change of plan for the current UCI Europe Tour leader’s build-up to the World Championships has meant he had to be withdrawn from their provisional roster.

Completing the line-up will be the Irish national team, who will rider The Tour of Britain ahead of a busy autumn and winter of competition at the World Championships, Commonwealth Games, European Track Championships and the UCI Track World Cup. Provisionally amongst their roster is Irish Under-23 Champion Sam Bennett, who recently signed as a stagiare for the French FDJ squad.

“We are very happy with the seventeen teams we have riding The Tour of Britain this year,” said Race Director Mick Bennett, “and in particular the provisional rider line-up we have, which shows how highly the teams think of the event. “We have stage winners from all three Grand Tours, current World, Olympic and Commonwealth Champions, plus a whole host of reigning National Champions."

“It is important to note we have our best ever line-up of British riders in The Tour of Britain, with a number capable of becoming the first Briton to win The Tour overall since it’s re-birth in 2004.  At the same time we have a number of excellent riders from around the world, so I’m sure it will once again be an entertaining, and open race.”

The Tour of Britain begins in Rochdale on Saturday 11th September, finishing eight days later in London after visiting England’s Northwest, Stoke-on-Trent and the Staffordshire Moorlands, Wales, the South West and Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.  Highlights of each stage will be shown on ITV4 from 19:00 to 20:00 each evening of The Tour, and will be available to watch again online via the ITV Player.
