Event Details
The second event in the fifteen week series proved as popular as week 1. There were 165 registered competitors over all the races with some fierce competition in all categories. 32 youth riders took part with great racing as always in the Youth categories most notably the U12 age group with the biggest field of 13 riders. The U16 and U 14 riders set off to complete 5 laps of the main circuit with young Peter Kibble managing to remain with the U16 riders and break clear from his fellow competitors for a good win with Etienne Georgi outsprinting Taylor Rowe on the line. Matt Godden out sprinted Tristan Robbins and Matt Woods in the U16 event. James Tillett won the U12's race on his own from Will Crofts who was also clear with Megan James coming home in 3rd place also on her own. Elynor Backstedt moved up a place from last week to take the win from a very spirited Euan Taylor who outsprinted Lauren Booth in the U10's who rode 8 laps of the pit lane circuit. In the U8 Scott Curtis was dominant winning comfortably from Zoe Backstedt and Winston Powell.
88 3rd and 4th cat riders lined up for 1hr and 1 lap and 45 E/1/2's rode for 70 mins + 1 lap race. Once again the camera proved crucial in identifying the placed riders. This week we decided to start the E/1/2's a minute after the 3rd's and 4th's hoping that they would catch them, ride through on the understanding that no one "jumped on" from the 3rd's and 4th's and give themselves a clear road to contest both races safely. The E/1/2's once having caught the 3rds/4th race slowed which almost led to one major bunch and despite different coloured numbers could have proved interesting for the judges. Thankfully some diligent commissaire work ensured that the bunches did in fact remain separate. With around 3 laps to go the large field of 3rds/4ths riders had a coming together in the 2nd chicane as riders started to make there way to the front for the inevitable bunch sprint. Thankfully no one was seriously injured with the usual scrapes and bruises and the sprint being won in fine style by Craig Wallduck from Tristan Robbins fresh from the U16 event and Mick Murphy.
The E/1/2 race was seriously fast with an early break establishing itself very early on and staying clear for the entire race. Dale Appleby won a very closely contested sprint from Rich Mardle with James Lewis coming home third. Regular league supporter Ben Luckwell came in 4th and Simon Richardson in 5th place. A late chase by Dean Windsor and Will Bjergfelt ensured 6th and 7th with Hugh Wilson leading in a further small group that had managed to detach itself from the front of the race making the judges job much more simple.
