Event Details
James Gullen put in a fantastic solo breakaway to win Sunday's race at Doveholes. The team wallis CHH rider put in an epic turn on the notoriously tough circuit, which consists of around 1800 metres of climbing in 56miles.
Gullen put in a solo attack on the very first lap hoping someone would bridge the gap and help out. However this move did not materialise, but by this point there was no looking back as his lead grew and grew. With 3 laps to go James had around 1 minute on a group of about 10 riders, including wallis CHH's Matt Holmes and Calum Nicholson. Entering the final lap the lead had grown to about 2 minutes and the chasing group was beginning to break up, with Holmes and Nicholson policing any attempts to close Gullen down.
Gullen was pressing hard and got a little nervous when he was given an incorrect time check and was told that the group were catching him. In fact he was comfortably in front and he was able to cruise home for a fantastic win. A great day for wallis CHH was rounded off when Matt Holmes joined Gullen on the podium by finishing in 3rd place, with Nicholson in 8th and Rob Crampton also in the top 20.
