Hime Wins XRT-Elmy Cycles Road Race
Elmy Cycles, 19 June 2011
Gosbeck Village Hall, Ipswich, Suffolk
Report: Snowdon Sports
FINCHLEY RT's Simon Hime took victory in the XRT-Elmy Cycles Road Race in Suffolk on Sunday, taking a lead into the climb to the finish and holding off his breakaway rivals all the way to the line.
Hime made sure he was first into the left hand bend at the bottom of the climb on the last of eight laps, and he swept tight through the other corners to hold off his rivals and ensure victory.
After four laps of relatively lifeless racing which saw very few attacks, the race sprung into action with Basil Moss (Cambridge CC) and Jim Lewis (Glendene CC) attacking and opening up a 40 second gap on the bunch.
They were joined at the front by Lewis's team-mate Russell Ford, and then by eventual winner Simon Hime.
As time went on more and more riders bridged the gap to form a leading group of around 20 riders with a 39-strong bunch left behind.
The big group worked well to ensure the bunch remained around a minute and a half behind, but at the line it was Hime who proved the strongest with his dominant tactics.
