Report: Snowdon Sports
AFTER helping to power a race-long break, Rafa Rodriguez (Twenty 3C-Orbea) had enough left in the tank to hold off his rivals and take victory in the latest round of the South East Road Race League, staged on a circuit at Horsmonden in Kent on Sunday.
The 29-year-old Hertfordshire-based rider edged out Sigma Sport rival Andy Betts and CS Grupetto's Nicholas Hutchings in the sprint for the line at the end of round 21 of the popular series.
All three had been part of an eight-rider break which had gone clear early in the race.
As they ploughed around six and a half laps of an 11.7-mile circuit, the leading group was whittled down with Jake Martin (Pendragon) retiring after struggling with an unshipped chain.
And on the final circuit Chris MacNamara (Team Corley Cycles) saw his hopes of victory disappoint thanks to a puncture which left him two minutes down on the leaders in eighth spot.
