John Doherty won a three-up sprint finish to the Richard Hoyland Memorial Road Race, staged around Braithwell in South Yorkshire on Sunday.
VS Cycles rider Doherty, 37 and from Brighouse, edged out breakaway companion Steve Ellis (Out of the Saddle) for the win at the end of the 59-mile race, while Derby Mercury's Rob Slater took third.
Conditions were near perfect for the race, with still conditions helping ensure a high pace, while rain prior to the event was soon dried out by the welcome sun.
The race largely stayed together for the first ten laps of a 3.7-mile circuit, but with about six laps remaining Ellis attacked and dragged Doherty and Slater with him.
They establish a lead of about 30 seconds, and although that was whittled down to about 17 seconds they did manage to stay clear of the bunch in the final lap to ensure they shared the podium places.
