Dinnington RC’s Andrew Shaw powered to victory in the 50-mile Steve Rigby Memorial Race in Kippax on Sunday.
The 30-year-old Skellow rider was part of the bunch that stayed together for most of the race until five laps from the end.
But that is when he made his move and got away from the rest of the field. As the race, which saw almost half of the 60-strong field retire, wore on, Shaw continued to build on his lead and put daylight between himself and the chasers.
By the end of the race, he had built up a gap of three minutes over his nearest competitors with nine of them vying for a place in the top ten in a sprint finish.
Andrew Shaw said after the race: “I got away with five laps to go. I made a mistake though, I didn’t think there was that far to go!
“But I stuck with it and tried to hang on and the gap was there so I took it.”
