Attacking on the final climb of Bulmer Bank, Ben Greenwood (Vanillabikes.com) rode away from his last two remaining rivals to score a deserved win in the 77-mile York Cycleworks Elite Road Race at Sheriff Hutton.
Taking 100 metres out of Tom Stewart (RST Racing Team) and Kit Gilham (Herbalife-Leisure Lakes Bikes) by the top of the 1.2-mile climb, 27-year-old Greenwood kicked again on the run to Ganthorpe before extending his advantage to around a minute on the fast run to the finish from Terrington as he ended a run of second places in the last two weekends.
The race was strung out from the start in dry but breezy conditions, and the three leaders came from a group of six riders which formed at the front on the fifth of the seven laps and was reduced by half before the bell.
