Huddersfield veteran Richard Binks (Clay Cross RT) was given the verdict by the narrowest of margins in a tight finish to Lincoln Wheelers’ 59-mile Masters road race at Eagle.
The 47-year-old Yorkshire Region over-40 champion raised his arms as he crossed the line, but second-placed Giles Pidcock (Chevin Cycles.com) was just as sure that he had won the five-lap race until the judges deliberations said otherwise.
Andrew Parr (Revolution Fitness) took third place after the field had come back together on the last lap following two earlier four-man breaks.
Youth gave way to age in a sprint finish to the four-lap race for third and fourth categories – Rotherham’s Andrew Marsh (Dinnington RC) coming out on top at the expense of his 17-year-old junior clubmate Cameron Reilly.
The pair accelerated clear of the rest of a tightly-packed field coming out of the tight left hander leading on to the short, sharp finishing climb and opened up a gap of ten seconds by the line where Marsh secured his second win of the season.
