Going clear on the last lap of a demanding new circuit, Pete Williams led a one-two for IG Sigma Sport in Newcastle Cheviot CC’s 85-mile promotion run in memory of 1983 Milk Race winner Peter Chisman.

Williams was followed over the line by team-mate Matt Cronshaw, who outsprinted Will Bjergfelt (MG-Maxifuel Pro Cycling) and David McGowan (Herbalife-Leisure Lakes Bikes) as the cold conditions and rugged nature of the 8.9-mile circuit based on Stamfordham ripped the field to shreds and saw the finishers come over the line in small groups.

After a five-mile run towards Belsay from the race headquarters, the action started as soon as the race turned on to the circuit for the first of nine laps and as groups went up the road left a struggling bunch around four minutes down by halfway and out of contention.
