The second day of competition saw the event move out onto the open road with teams competing in Individual and Team Time Trials.
Held over hilly and technically demanding terrain the events tested the riders all round ability with the gold medals in the 4 events being spread across 4 different regions (East Midlands, South West, Wales and Eastern) and the tandem VI para-cyclists yet again producing some incredibly close and tightly fought racing.
Notable other performances were by Ulster cementing their position as the most improved team by winning two more medals, and the South West backing up their win in the Individual Time Trial by placing two further riders in the top 4; only being denied a clean sweep of the individual medals by East Midlands, and the Team Time Trial gold by a mechanical while in sight of the finish line.
In the overall competition, West Midlands fell back from their overnight lead to third, with the top spot now being held by the North West and second by Wales; but with all three still in contention to take the title tomorrow.
Fourth place looks to be secure for the East Midlands but the battle for mid-table honours (between Ulster, South West, South East an Eastern) could go to any of those teams. Behind them the contest between Scotland, Yorkshire and South is wide open and North East and Central are tied for the final spot.
The competition tomorrow concludes with three road races for the Boys, Girls and Tandem riders. Held over the same challenging terrain, the boys will climb nearly 5,000 feet (higher than Ben Nevis), and the girls over 3,000 feet (higher than Mount Snowden) and will provide a spectacular finale to the 2013 School Games and Inter-Regional Road Championship.
