Location: South Mimms, Potters Bar, Herts
Event: 13 October 2013
Report: Snowdon Sports
Caught by a chasing group of eight riders on the last of six laps of the South Mimms circuit, Alex Minting (Prestige VC) took time to get his breath back before sprinting to his fourth road race win of the year in Finsbury Park CC’s 56-mile end-of-season promotion.
Rain fell throughout the race, which included a diversion down a gated farm track covered in mud and puddles, as Minting – winner of a silver medal in the team pursuit at last month’s national track championships – went clear with Peter Morris (ASL 360) around half-distance.
Morris punctured with a lap to go, keeping going to take tenth place, but although Minting was unable to hold off the chasers on his own, the 18-year-old had enough left in his legs to take the sprint ahead of Mark Smith (Welwyn Wheelers) and evergreen Richard Prebble (Node4 Giordana Racing).
Result:
1 Alex Minting (Prestige VC)
2 Mark Smith (Welwyn Wheelers)
3 Richard Prebble (Node4 Giordana Racing)
