Full racing licence

To gain any ranking points, a rider must hold a Full Racing Licence issued by British Cycling at the time of the event in which they participate.

Members of other national federations, non British Cycling members, or British Cycling members with only a Provisional Racing Licence, do not qualify for ranking points. Find out more about .

National rankings

Points gained in National events produce the following National rankings:

  • National Individual Rankings. A ranked list of all riders will be determined by total points scored in National events, and produced for Elite, 1st, 2nd and 3rd category riders.
  • National Club /Team Rankings. A ranked list of clubs / teams will be determined by total points scored in National events, with a maximum of 3 scoring riders per Club / Team in any one event.
  • National Region Rankings. A ranked list of all Regions will be determined by total points scored in National events, with a maximum of three scoring riders in any one event.
  • National Youth Rankings. A ranked list of all riders will be determined by total points scored in Youth events, and produced for each Youth age category, male and female.

Regional rankings

Points gained in Regional events will produce the following Regional rankings:

Regional Individual Rankings. A ranked list of all riders will be determined by total points scored in Regional events, and produced for 2nd, 3rd and 4th category riders.

Regional Club /Team Rankings. A ranked list of clubs / teams will be determined by total points scored in Regional events, with a maximum of 3 scoring riders per club / team in any one event. Points will only be scored for a club / team if the event is held in the Region in which the club / team is registered.

Residence

Points are awarded on the basis of a rider's region of residence - not that of his club / team affiliation. If you live at a non-permanent address, e.g. full-time students and members of the armed forces, you can score points for the region of either your temporary or permanent address.

British Cycling Elite Road Series

Notes

  • Points scored by Elite and 1st category riders in Regional C+ events will count towards National rankings.
  • Points scored by 2nd, 3rd and 4th category riders in Regional C+ events will count towards Regional rankings
  • Points scored by 2nd and 3rd category riders in National events will count towards both National and Regional rankings

Licence points explained - road and circuit racing

Points are awarded on the basis of the result gained and the level (i.e. status) of the event, according to the table below. These points go towards a rider's licence category and towards their National and Regional rankings and the National and Regional rankings of their club or Team.

Please note that Licence Points can only be awarded to Silver or Gold level members of British Cycling who hold a Full Racing Licence at the time of the race.

Notes:
Regional C and Go Race events do not qualify for licence points. For stage races, points shall be awarded for final standings in the general classification. For specific road and circuit events, the following points bands shall apply :

  • National A Stage Race: Individual Stage (including Time Trials): Points Band 3
  • National B and C Stage Races: Individual Stage (including Time Trials): Points Band 4
  • Regional Stage Races: Individual Stage (including Time Trials): Points Band 5
  • National Championship or National Series event for Juniors: Points Band 2
  • Other event open only to Juniors: Points Band 3
  • National Championship or National Series event for Masters: Points Band 3
  • Other event open only to Masters: Points Band 4
  • Standard Track Event of 3km or Over: Band 5 (Top 6 Placings)
  • National Track Championship or National Track Series Event 3km or Over: Band 3 (Top 6 Placings)
  • Final Standings in Track Leagues: Band 4 (Top 6 Placings)
  • Please note that ALL weeknight closed circuit races on fixed, traffic-free facilities are run at Points Band 5. ALL circuit races run between November 1 and 28 February are also subject to Points Band 5.
