Scottish Cycling, with the help of Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland and local partners, is running two new October holiday mountain bike camps in Dundee.
To be held in Camperdown Park, from 16th – 20th October, 10:00-12:00 for boys and girls and then from 13.00-15.00 for girls only. The sessions are open to youngsters between the ages 8-12 and places are limited.
Scottish Cycling will be working with local partners, Angus Cycle Hub, Ancrum Outdoor Centre, Dundee Active Schools and Dundee City Council, and trained volunteers, to create an amazing holiday camp for young people.
The holiday camps are part of a partnership with sportscotland, where Dundee has been selected to be the first city in Scotland to pilot a Level 1 Mountain Bike Centre which can be used by schools, community groups, cycling clubs and promoted to members of the public. The ongoing delivery of youth mountain biking sessions delivered through the centre also forms part of the Scottish Cycling Go Ride programme supported by British Cycling and a new partnership with HSBC UK to get more kids riding bikes
Scottish Cycling’s Mountain Bike Leadership Development Officer Christine Fox, said:
“This project would not be possible without funding from sportscotland and the partnership between HSBC UK and British Cycling.
We are excited to have the opportunity to be able to put volunteers through their leadership qualifications giving them the opportunity to be at the forefront of creating new riders.
The holiday camps are going to benefit the young people of Dundee, and I am particularly pleased that we are offering a girls’ only session in the hope of encouraging more females into the sport. I am looking forward to working with all our local partners to make this first holiday programme a success.”
Scott Francis, Angus Cycle Hub, who are the lead deliverers of this programme said:
‘We are delighted to be involved in this programme. Our aim is to create opportunities and break down the barriers for people to access cycling so this project was one we were very keen to be involved in. We have access to a fantastic trail network in Dundee and we very much look forward to working with our partners and seeing how much the young riders develop over the week.’
