SUMMARY + CLOSE |
Morning Session
Welcome
Members of our Scottish Cycling Young People’s Panel will welcome attendees to the conference and provide an outline of the days programme. They will outline key areas of their work over the last year, and present on the work they have been doing to raise awareness of the benefits of Young Coaches in clubs.
Our Strategy – Developing a Nation of Cyclists
An update on the Scottish Cycling corporate strategy, sharing highlights from the first year and looking forward to the future.
Changing Lives Through Sport – Guest Speaker
There is a strong evidence to link physical activity and sport with positive changes in people’s lives beyond physical wellbeing. Improvements to mental health, skills and learning, and to communities are well documented and contribute to a more inclusive and healthier nation.
Cycling is well placed to play a leading role in contributing to these improvements; our guest speaker will unpack what the Changing Lives approach is, and how adopting this approach can lead to a more vibrant club that delivers community outcomes as well as delivering sporting success.
Introduction to Scottish Cycling Club Development Framework
Our Club Development Team will provide an insight into the new Club Development Framework. They will share the process of how it has been developed, outlining the key priority areas and the support available to clubs which underpins it. We will also launch our exciting new Club Progression programme.
Afternoon Session
In the afternoon session, attendees will have the choice of three workshops across two sessions. Please note, if you select the Coaching workshop in the first session, you will automatically attend the Coaching workshop in the second session.
Number One Governing Body for Sport
Scottish Cycling aspires to be recognised as the number one governing body of sport in Scotland. To ensure our governance arrangements are best in class, this workshop will outline revised governance arrangements to be considered at our November AGM and will provide an opportunity for discussion, review and feedback. Come along and help us shape the future.
Maximising funding opportunites for your club
This session is focused on supporting clubs to better articulate what they want to achieve and how to convince funders that they are worthwhile investing in. We will look at what ‘investment-ready’ means, and how to make successful funding applications based upon the work you are intending to do. We will look at the current funding landscape and share some best practice examples of how clubs have worked innovatively to meet their desired outcomes.
Club Coaching
A framework for club coaching: how do we create coherent and engaging rider development pathways?
Maintaining and individualising rider engagement: how do we plan and deliver athlete centred coaching that challenges and supports?
Direct Club Investment
We will hear from three of our Scottish Cycling affiliated clubs who have been successful in receiving Direct Club Investment from sportscotland: Edinburgh Road Club, Dunfermline CC/Carnegie Cyclones and
Glasgow Riderz. Each club will present on why they chose to do it, the process of securing funding, what their project has involved and what next for the club.
Embedding the Changing Lives approach within your club
In this session we will use the Changing Lives approach to unpack what it means for you and your club to be involved with cycling. We will explore how other organisations and sports have used the Changing Lives approach to expand what their club offers, grow their membership and transfer this knowledge into something that could work at your club.
Scottish Cycling Conference and Awards Weekend
We are delighted to confirm that in 2020 we are once again combining the Club Coaching and Development Conference, the Commissaire and Event Organiser Conference and the Roll of Honour into one fantastic weekend of cycling information sharing and recognition.
